| Benefits |
| The race is hosted by the Churchville Chili cross country teams and goes to fund two scholarships for Churchville Chili student athletes. The James B. Francis Jr. Award and the Andrea Kofal Memorial Award go to runners who demonstrate sportsmanship, dedication and character as part of the Churchville Chili running programs. These awards are given annually at the sports banquet and include a scholarship check and plaque. |
| James B. Francis |
| James was a graduate of Churchville Chili and a student at Houghton College. He was tragically killed in a car accident and the race was started by family and friends to honor his memory and benefit the Churchville Chili running programs. James was a track standout and an excellent cross country runner. James was a Christian and a young man who demonstrated the character and sportsmanship that coaches look for in their athletes. |
| Andrea Kofahl |
| Like James Francis, Andrea was also a cross country and track athlete at Churchville Chili. She too was tragically involved in a car accident in 1996, the summer before her senior year. She was a wonderful person and brought a lot of fun and energy to her teams. |
| Race History |
| The race was started in the early 1990's as a tribute to James B. Francis Jr. of Chili. The race was coordinated by Joe Steinwachs until Paul Glor took over in 2006. When Paul took over the race was renamed to include both Andrea and James. It is now run at Black Creek Park as a "cross county race" to symbolize the efforts and personalities of both Andrea and James. |
